Line Pipe Thread Plug and Ring Gages

Helpful Tips

  • Use the correct size and type of gage for the thread specification. For example, Line Pipe threads have different diameters and pitches than Casing or Tubing threads.
  • Calibrate the gages regularly using certified master gages and follow the API 5B specification for calibration procedures and frequency.
  • Clean the gages and the threads before and after each use to prevent dirt, oil or corrosion from affecting the measurements.
  • Apply a thin layer of lubricant to the gages and the threads to reduce friction and provide longer wear.
  • When working with the gages handle them with care and store them in a dry and protected place to avoid damage or deformation.
  • Inspect the gages for any defects or wear before each use and replace them as needed.
  • Record the serial number of the gage(s), the calibration date and measurement results for each inspection made.

Line Pipe thread plug and ring gages are used to measure the dimensions and quality of the threads on pipes that are used to transport oil and gas. They are designed by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and are manufactured to the highest standards of accuracy and durability.
