IF - Internal Flush - Rotary Shouldered Connection Thread Plug and Ring Gages

IF connections are one of the most common types of rotary shouldered connections used in the industry.

IF - Internal Flush is a type of rotary shouldered connection used in the oil and gas industry. Rotary shouldered connections are threaded joints that connect drill pipes, drill collars, subs, and other components of the drill string. They are designed to withstand high torque, tension, and compression loads during drilling operations.

IF connections have a V-shaped thread form with a 38° angle and a 10 threads per inch pitch. They are similar to NC connections but have a smaller outer diameter and a larger inner diameter resulting in a flush joint. This reduces the risk of differential sticking, improves hydraulic efficiency, and allows the use of larger downhole tools.

IF connections have a torque shoulder that provides a positive stop for make-up and a seal face that prevents metal-to-metal contact between the pin and box.

Some IF connection advantages compared to other types of rotary shouldered connections are lower friction, higher flow rate, better clearance and easier handling.
